“I used to snowboard a lot,” Andrea Rosso, the Creative Director of 55DSL and son of Diesel’s Renzo Rosso, recalls of his childhood. “I used to ask my father to make snowboard clothing. “I’ve always been involved [with actions sports] because all of my friends were skateboarders, in Italy, and snowboarders. I was later introduced to surfing, and I fell in love with it.”
The evolution of Andrea Rosso’s involvement in Diesel mirrors the growth of 55DSL. “My involvement was always there,” Rosso recalls. “Even when I was studying, I would go to the office to give input to the designer.” From these initial interactions, he realized that there was a place for him within 55DSL. “When I decided to go to school, I wanted to go into fashion. It makes sense,” he notes, referring to the profound impact his father’s vision has had upon him. “Thanks [goes] to my father, who took me places and showed me how to develop a whole line.”
